Why choose this rack
The Old Man Mountain Elkhorn Tall is a 6061 aluminum rack designed for bikepacking and light loads on bikes with 29" wheels, where extra clearance is needed for wide tires, mud, and real off-road use. It can be used both front and rear and is built to work with cargo cages, bottles, dry bags, and modular systems—not with traditional panniers.
Compared to the Short version, the Tall is designed for tires up to 29 x 3.25" and to maximize clearance. It is therefore the right choice when the bike is actually used in MTB environments, with modern forks and on routes where mud, debris, and tire volume matter.
Its design philosophy remains that of the Elkhorn: lightweight structure, 3-pack mounts on the uprights, and a top platform with multiple mounting points, for a stable and modular bikepacking setup.

After your order, we will contact you via email to verify compatibility and provide the correct Fit Kit if needed.
If your bike is already set up for direct mounting (eyelets), you can indicate this in the order notes.

When it makes sense
you use a 29" MTB or a bike that requires high tire clearance
you want to mount cargo cages, bottles, dry bags, or modular systems on fork or rear
you do off-road bikepacking with wide tires and routes where mud and debris really matter
you are looking for a lightweight and stable rack without moving to a heavy touring setup
When it does NOT make sense
you want to use traditional panniers as your main setup
you need medium to heavy touring load capacity
your bike is better suited to the Short version based on wheel size and mounting height
