Why choose this rack
The Old Man Mountain Impala Lowrider is a 6061 aluminum front rack designed to maximize stability with front load on gravel, paved roads, and smooth dirt routes. Its key feature is the very low positioning of the panniers, aligned closer to the wheel center compared to a traditional front rack.
This geometry lowers the center of gravity and reduces wheel flop caused by higher-mounted bags. It is therefore a true touring solution for riders who use front load with a technical approach and want more stable and predictable handling.
Unlike many classic lowriders, the Impala also includes a top platform—useful for a compact bag or light gear without overcrowding the handlebar area.

Fit Kit and compatibility
a specific Fit Kit may be required for bikes with thru axles or without mounts

Important note:
The Impala Lowrider is a dedicated front rack. It makes sense when front load is part of a properly balanced setup—not when trying to concentrate excessive volume or oversized bags on the front.
When it makes sense
you want maximum front load stability
you use compact front panniers
you want more predictable handling compared to higher-mounted front racks
you want a top platform for a compact bag or light gear
you are building a complete touring setup with balanced front and rear load
When it does NOT make sense
you want to use very large front panniers
you need a front rack for tight, technical trails with significant side obstacles
you do not need real front load
you prefer a minimalist bikepacking setup without panniers
Recommended setups
Main use
compact front panniers
compact bag on the top platform
front setup to balance rear load
The Impala makes the most sense as a technical front rack for weight distribution, not as the primary point for bulky loads.
For balanced handling, front load should always be considered as part of the overall setup, not in isolation.
FAQ – frequently asked questions about Old Man Mountain Impala Lowrider
Is it a true lowrider or a generic front rack?
It is a true lowrider: its defining feature is the very low pannier position, close to the wheel center.
Is it front-only?
Yes. The Impala is a dedicated front rack.
How much weight can it carry?
The manufacturer states 25 kg total: 18 kg on the side rails and 7 kg on the top platform.
Can I use it with large panniers?
It is better to use compact front panniers. On a front lowrider, not only weight but also pannier size and bulk are critical.
Is the Fit Kit always required?
No. It is only required when mounting on the axle or on forks without compatible mounts.
Is it suitable for off-road?
Yes, on gravel, smooth dirt roads, and wide trails. It is not the right rack for technical trails with large rocks or tight passages.
Technical notes / limitations
compatibility must be verified based on fork and axle
Fit Kit is not included
front load should remain controlled even if the rack supports higher loads
pannier volume and size matter as much as weight
not suitable for tight or highly technical terrain
Notes from relevant external sources
The Impala Lowrider is one of the few modern solutions that truly follow the traditional touring lowrider concept: keeping the front load low and close to the wheel center to increase stability and control.
It is appreciated for:
lower center of gravity compared to traditional front racks
more stable handling with front panniers
top platform useful for a compact bag or small additional load
compatibility with modern forks via Fit Kit
