The Ritchey Break-Away Outback is a steel frameset designed for riders who want to travel with their own bike and then ride confidently on paved roads, dirt roads and smooth gravel, without logistical compromises. Thanks to the patented Break-Away® system, the frame can be separated and packed into the included travel case, while preserving alignment, ride quality and structural integrity once reassembled.
It is best described as a travel-ready all-road / gravel endurance platform: not an extreme gravel bike, not a pure road frame, but a balanced solution for long distances, light loads and mixed surfaces.
Bike travel: frequent flights and transfers with your bike as luggage.
All-road endurance: stable, predictable handling for long days in the saddle.
Fast gravel and mixed terrain: wide tyre clearance without moving into MTB territory.
Possible setups (concise and precise):
1x drivetrain for simplicity and reliability when travelling, or 2x for a broader gear range on mixed routes.
700c wheels for speed and efficiency, or 650b for added volume and comfort on rougher surfaces.
Light touring configuration, using rack and fender mounts and the fork’s multipurpose mounts (up to 3 kg per side).
WCS Logic Tubing
The frame is built from Ritchey’s proprietary WCS Logic steel tubing, triple-butted and heat-treated, developed specifically for the TIG welding process to Tom Ritchey’s specifications. This ensures strength, durability and a consistent, predictable ride feel over time.
Integrated Seat Collar
The distinctive fastback seat stay / seat tube junction integrates the seat collar, reducing separate components while ensuring secure and reliable seatpost clamping.
Multipurpose Mounts
The new Ritchey Carbon Adventure Fork features triple mounts on each fork leg, allowing the use of cargo cages or accessories, in addition to rack and fender mounts.
Integrated Carbon Crown
The fork’s integrated carbon crown provides clean integration with Ritchey headsets and helps reduce stress at the steerer–crown interface.
