Recap

Reynolds 725 steel platform with Shimano CUES 2×10 drivetrain and hydraulic brakes, built around a thru-axle configuration.

The CUES system introduces a design logic focused on durability, consistent operation, and straightforward long-term management. The Croix de Fer 30 is oriented toward mixed-terrain and distance use, with a stable configuration suited to regular riding.

Positioning and use logic

The Croix de Fer 30 retains its central role within the range: a complete platform, usable on both tarmac and dirt, with a configuration designed to cover different use cases without over-specialisation.

The choice of Shimano CUES drivetrain defines the model’s behaviour. The system is designed to operate consistently over time, with more linear shifting management and greater tolerance for frequent use, even in less-than-ideal conditions.

It is a bike that makes sense for riders using the platform regularly — frequent rides, extended commuting, mixed routes — and looking for a configuration that remains stable and predictable over time.

It is not oriented toward pure sportive use or extreme scenarios: here the priority is continuity.

Frame and platform

The Reynolds 725 frame defines the bike’s behaviour: stable structure, progressive response, and the ability to absorb surface irregularities over medium to long distances.

The Amplitude G100 chromoly fork maintains design consistency with the frame, offering linear response and a structure suited to continuous use across mixed surfaces.

The thru-axle standards (12x100 / 12x142) ensure stability and precision under load, while configurable internal cable routing allows integration of accessories and components without invasive modification.

Compatibility with a dropper post and accessory-based setups confirms the nature of the platform: a base designed to be adapted around real-world use.

Build and technical choices

The Shimano CUES U6000 2×10 drivetrain with 46/32T crankset and 11-39T cassette is built around a logic of real-world use: wide gear range, smooth operation, and predictable management even on variable routes.

Its behaviour remains coherent on tarmac, where it supports continuous progression, and on dirt, where it maintains suitable gearing without requiring frequent adjustment.

The Shimano CUES hydraulic braking system with 160 mm rotors delivers modulated and consistent braking, suited to extended use and variable conditions.

The Amplitude G100 wheels with 26 mm internal width work effectively with 45 mm tyres, contributing to stability and comfort on mixed surfaces.

Wheels and tyres / compatibility

The stock setup includes Maxxis Rambler 700x45 mm tubeless-ready tyres on pre-taped rims, with valves included. The configuration is ready for real mixed-surface use without requiring modification.

The platform supports tyres up to 47 mm, offering enough margin to adapt the bike’s behaviour according to intended use.

When it makes sense

  • For regular use on mixed routes, alternating between tarmac and dirt.
  • For riders looking for a drivetrain that remains stable over time and is easy to manage.
  • For extended commuting, frequent rides, and light bikepacking.

When it does NOT make sense

  • It is not designed for performance-focused sportive use.
  • It is not a specialist platform for advanced technical off-road riding.
  • It is not the ideal choice for exclusively road-based use with speed as the main priority.

Genesis Croix de Fer 30 CUES FAQ

Is the CUES drivetrain suitable for frequent use?

Yes. It is designed to operate consistently over time, with less need for intervention than systems that are more performance-oriented.

Is it a bike suited to long rides?

Yes. The combination of steel frame, 2x gearing, and stable setup makes it suitable for medium to long distances across mixed surfaces.

Can I use it every day?

Yes. It is one of the most coherent configurations for everyday use within the Croix de Fer range.
