Positioning and use logic

The Ritchey WCS Steel Adventure is a steel adventure fork designed for long distances, mixed terrain and setups where comfort, precision and load capacity need to coexist.

It is not designed as an extreme rigid MTB fork nor as a purely gravel upgrade: it is a solution oriented towards travel, bikepacking and adventure riding, built to handle asphalt, gravel and uneven surfaces while maintaining precise yet less fatiguing handling over time.

Steel is a key part of its identity: compared to stiffer and harsher forks, the Steel Adventure better filters vibrations and small impacts, making long days in the saddle more comfortable without compromising control and precision.

The 435 mm axle-to-crown (fork height, which affects geometry and bike setup) makes it suitable for modern gravel travel and adventure configurations, more focused on distance and versatility than aggressive technical off-road riding.

Differences from other adventure forks

Compared to the Ritchey WCS Carbon Mountain Adventure, the Steel Adventure is more oriented towards travel and long-distance use.

The Carbon Mountain Adventure is designed for rigid MTB, technical off-road riding and frames with more MTB-oriented geometry, while the Steel Adventure prioritises comfort, the feel of steel and mixed-terrain use.

Compared to the Seido MGV, the Steel Adventure offers a more “classic” and compliant ride typical of steel, while the MGV focuses on lower weight, higher load capacity and a more modern carbon travel platform.

Compared to more extreme expedition forks such as the Seido BPS, the Steel Adventure is less oriented towards heavy loads and remote use, but more balanced for mixed-terrain travel and long-distance riding.

Comfort, travel and mixed terrain

The WCS Steel Adventure is designed for riders spending long hours in the saddle, on variable routes and imperfect surfaces.

Tyre clearance up to 29×2.6" or 27.5×2.6" allows for highly versatile setups, from fast gravel adventure builds to more off-road and bikepacking-oriented configurations.

The multiple mounts on the fork blades allow cargo cages to be fitted, while fender and rack mounts expand travel setup options.

The straight 1-1/8" steerer contributes to overall comfort, promoting a less rigid and more progressive ride on rough terrain.

Bike compatibility and setup

The fork uses a Boost 15×110 mm thru-axle, Post Mount brake interface and is compatible with rotors up to 180 mm.

The 435 mm axle-to-crown (overall fork height) must be carefully checked: fitting a fork that is taller or shorter than the one specified by the frame will affect riding position, steering behaviour and bike stability.

It is compatible with frames designed for modern adventure or gravel forks and supports setups with high-volume tyres, fenders and moderate front load.

Declared load capacity:

  • 3 kg per side on the multi-purpose mounts
  • 10 kg total on rack eyelets (rack + bags + contents)

FAQ Ritchey WCS Steel Adventure

Is the Ritchey WCS Steel Adventure suitable for bikepacking?

Yes. It is suitable for bikepacking and travel on mixed terrain, with the option to mount cargo cages, fenders and light to medium front racks.

Can I use it to replace a suspension fork?

It depends on the frame geometry. With a 435 mm axle-to-crown, it is generally more suited to gravel travel and adventure bikes than suspension-corrected MTB platforms.

What is the difference compared to the Ritchey Carbon Mountain Adventure?

The Steel Adventure is more focused on comfort, long-distance riding and mixed terrain. The Carbon Mountain Adventure is more off-road oriented, designed for rigid MTB and more technical terrain.

How much load can it carry?

The multi-purpose mounts support up to 3 kg per side. The rack eyelets allow a maximum of 10 kg total including rack, bags and contents.

What tyres can I use?

The fork supports tyres up to 29×2.6" or 27.5×2.6", depending on rim/tyre combination and available clearance.
