Real-world use and positioning
The Seido BPS (Bike Packing Steel) is a steel expedition fork designed for the harshest conditions, remote travel and expedition-focused MTB builds.
It is not designed as a lightweight gravel or adventure fork: it is a platform built to replace 120–140 mm MTB suspension forks, carry serious luggage and handle demanding off-road terrain, remote tracks and prolonged loaded riding.
The Cr-Mo steel construction prioritises robustness, reliability and repairability, while the slight fork curvature helps absorb vibrations and reduce stress around the crown area.
The 500 mm axle-to-crown measurement (fork height influencing bike geometry and handling) makes it coherent with MTB frames designed around mid-travel suspension forks. This allows many adventure MTBs and hardtails to be converted into rigid touring platforms while maintaining geometry close to the original design.
Differences from other adventure forks
Compared with the Seido MGV, the BPS is far more focused on extreme expedition use, heavy loads and MTB platforms.
The MGV is designed for lighter, faster travel setups, using modern gravel/adventure standards and placing greater emphasis on low system weight.
Compared with the Ritchey WCS Carbon Mountain Adventure, the Seido BPS focuses less on low weight and dynamic handling, and more on reliability, durability and compatibility with larger tires and heavier cargo.
Compared with the Bombtrack BT-FK-003, it is taller, more robust and closer to a true rigid MTB expedition conversion.
Cargo, remote touring and bikepacking
The BPS is designed for self-supported travel and expedition builds where function comes before everything else.
It includes:
- triple cargo cage mounts,
- lowrider rack mounts,
- mudguard mounts,
- front light mount,
- internal dynamo cable routing.
Load capacity is one of the strongest aspects of the design:
- 20 kg total lowrider capacity
- 1.5 kg per individual cargo eyelet
- compatibility with serious front luggage setups for extended autonomy.
Tire clearance up to 29×3.0" or 27.5×3.0" allows highly capable setups for technical off-road riding, rough tracks and demanding terrain.
The additional weight compared with lightweight travel forks is intentional: it reflects a design philosophy focused on durability and reliability in harsh conditions.
Bike compatibility and setup
The Seido BPS uses:
- tapered 1-1/8" – 1-1/2" steerer
- Boost 15×110 mm axle standard
- Post Mount brake interface
- rotor compatibility up to 203 mm
The 500 mm axle-to-crown measurement should be checked carefully: it is designed to replace 120–140 mm MTB suspension forks and is therefore not compatible with standard gravel or rigid adventure frames.
Before purchase, it is important to verify:
- frame geometry,
- original suspension travel,
- axle standard,
- tire clearance,
- headset compatibility.
The Seido BPS is particularly suitable for expedition builds, rigid touring MTBs and remote-oriented setups.
All Seido forks include complete installation, use and maintenance instructions, which should always be followed carefully.

FAQ Seido BPS
Can the Seido BPS replace an MTB suspension fork?
Yes. It is specifically designed to replace 120–140 mm MTB suspension forks while maintaining coherent geometry on many adventure hardtail platforms.
Is it suitable for heavy bikepacking?
Yes. It is one of the most expedition-oriented forks for remote travel and heavy luggage, thanks to multiple mounts, lowrider compatibility and generous tire clearance.
What tire size can I run?
Declared compatibility reaches up to 29×3.0", 27.5×3.0" or 32×2.4", depending on wheel and setup.
How does it differ from the Seido MGV?
The BPS is more robust, taller and focused on MTB expedition riding and heavy loads. The MGV is lighter and designed for modern adventure travel and all-road touring with luggage.
Can I install it on a gravel bike?
In most cases, no. With a 500 mm axle-to-crown measurement, the BPS is designed for MTB frames compatible with suspension forks rather than standard rigid gravel platforms.
