The Ritchey Montebello is a frameset designed for endurance road riding, randonneuring and long-distance travel on paved roads, with room for light mixed-surface use. It is a platform developed for riders who prioritise continuity, stability and control over many hours in the saddle rather than short-duration performance.
In independent reviews, the Montebello is often described as balanced and predictable, with a riding character that remains consistent even after long days. It is not conceived as a competition road frame, but as a solid foundation for endurance-focused riding and long-distance use.
The frame is built from triple-butted, heat-treated Ritchey Logic steel tubing and TIG welded to Tom Ritchey’s specifications. The tubing selection and frame design aim to balance robustness, control and a progressive ride feel under load.
An EPD Coat treatment improves corrosion resistance, an important consideration for four-season use and multi-day travel. The frame is designed for flat mount disc brakes, a choice that supports consistent braking performance in varying weather conditions.
The Montebello is designed for practical, real-world use rather than pure performance. The frame includes:
Bottle cage mounts
Fender mounts
Rear rack mounts
This allows the bike to be set up either as a clean endurance road machine or as a light randonneur / travel bike without forcing compromises.
Bottom bracket: 68 mm, English threaded (BSA)
Drivetrain compatibility: 1x and 2x
Front derailleur support: brazed-on
Seatpost diameter: 27.2 mm
Headset: tapered (not included)
Axles: thru-axle
Brakes: disc, flat mount
The chosen standards ensure compatibility with modern components that are widely available and easy to service over time.
The frameset includes the Ritchey WCS Carbon Brevet Fork, developed for endurance road and randonneur use.
Key features:
Tapered steerer
Flat mount disc brake compatibility
Designed for long-distance stability and precise front-end control
The use of a carbon fork on a steel frame follows a well-established functional logic: carbon helps reduce the transmission of high-frequency vibrations from the road surface, contributing to improved ride quality over long distances without compromising steering accuracy.
The Montebello is designed around 700c wheels and allows the use of wider road tires than traditional race-oriented frames. This supports increased comfort and control on imperfect asphalt and secondary roads.
As always, actual tire width may vary depending on tire and rim manufacturer, so overall wheel and tire choice should be considered as part of a coherent setup.
The Montebello’s geometry is aimed at providing a stable, sustainable riding position that remains effective over long distances. Stack and reach values are designed to support an endurance posture without excessive load on the rider’s back and shoulders.
XS: 154–160 cm
S: 157–170 cm
M: 168–178 cm
L: 175–186 cm
XL: 183–191 cm
XXL: 188–196 cm
These figures should be considered general guidelines. Height alone is not sufficient to determine the correct size: inseam length, body proportions and intended use all play a significant role.
For personalised sizing advice, please send us your height and inseam. We reply within 24 hours.
The Ritchey Montebello is well suited for:
endurance road riding
randonneuring
light road touring
secondary roads and light mixed surfaces
It is a platform for riders who value reliability, coherence and long-distance usability over extreme or trend-driven solutions.
